Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Marseille on Penalties to Secure French Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now secured the prestigious cup on 14 different occasions.

The Parisian giants required a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a successful spot-kick decider to get past Marseille in Kuwait and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions title.

The Champions League holders appeared to be sailing towards a comfortable win in the showdown featuring the Ligue 1 champions and the Coupe de France winners after Ousmane Dembele found the net early on.

Yet, Marseille fired twice late to take a surprise lead. First, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable twist of events, Goncalo Ramos snatched a crucial leveler in the final seconds to send the match into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the hero, stopping decisive attempts from O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all converted with composure for PSG to complete a 4-1 shootout victory.

Now 14-time winners PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now lifted this trophy for the 12th time in the last 13 seasons.
